I never saw the appeal to this dude.

he has a couple cute lines i guess, but overall i find him corny.

I liked it. Thought it was a nice slant on the state of rappers lyrics "these days".

I remember posting on NT one time about how the state of hip-hop and how they portray themselves really began to annoy me. This was back in about 2001.

Basically, at the time I was kinda into the genre, but I was easily being pushed away from it, simply by the repetitive nature of the lyrics and videos. I grew VERY tired of every song being about themselves and how much money they have and what a badass they are. Every "song" had references some or all of the following: guns, bitches, money, sex, drugs. Not that there's anything wring with that - but in moderation.

My first real attraction to hip-hop was Ice Cube. I'll admit, even today I still love his voice, they way he delivers each line. It didn't put much of a veil, however, over the content of the tracks (I doubt he'll care). I guess hip-hop came from the streets, where all the aspects of each lyric actually stems from. So, in that respect, it's understandable that such references will arise. In every track on every album, however, was a bit much after a while. (I'll look the other way on "Today was a Good Day", as it contained many positives - even "nobody I know got killed in South Central LA" could be overlooked - but I can't forgive him for the "Supersonics reference" :) )

But the main reason for turning away from hip-hop as my #1 choice was the videos.

    Jesus.

Making a hip-hop video had a checklist. You all know them.

    1. Wide-angle lens / fish-eye lens (usually low down).
    2. The aforementioned "bitches". Bikinis not actually mandatory, but definitely a genre favourite.
    3. Your name / labels name in lights behind the "artists".
    4. ANY kind of expensive automobile / boat / plane.
    5. Alcoholic beverage (champagne when in boats and planes. 40 ounce in low-riders)
    6. Your mates all fuckin about round the fringes of the video wearing either camo gear or hideous velvet tracksuits.

So, yeah, this nice humourous post turned into a rant by myself. Please ignore. :)

Damn son, hell of a comment.

When i saw it i actually thought he was doing more of an Everlast parody.

    Maybe that was just me.

Hehe. Yeah, my cage got rattled.

I mean I still like hip-hop, but I can't credit it as being very original. Creative, yes. But way too many samples and poor, poor "rappers" (see:" Mace, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z and anyone else who just mumbles...)

I saw his parody as: all rappers are just everyday people too, but hype themselves up through offensive / controversial lyrics and very, very good PR people. He, of all people, was in fact keeping it real...

    :)

I didn't read that IN ANY WAY as an Everlast impression. I think it has far more to do with ChrisGP's interpretation. I think for many of us, we hit an age (I am 32) and a LARGE precentage of hip hop music no longer speaks to us. It is fairy tale music we were into at one time, but one day real life hits and you have trouble relating to it. I listen to a lot of hip hop, but it is mostly old stuff and I relate more to The Smiths, Everlast, and listen to some Turbonbegro etc. I listen to more music I would have made fun of a few years back now than I ever did. I am not a big fan of that comedian, he's whatever (but a few vids of his on Will Ferrels site are funny) I posted it because I am a regular everyday normal guy, I don't have a whole lote of money, I struggle to pay rent, I have normal guy hobbies etc. I am not living the life of a rap star, and fuck it I do make some damn good speghetti sauce. I relate more to that song than you do Chris maybe but you will hit an age when it makes more sense maybe. If not fuck it, its funny to me.

Fuck rap, I still like hip hop and I am a regular everyday kind of dude.

Ehh, it SOUNDS like an everlast song to me.

And i get it, i know exactly what you and j20 are talking about, and i agree with it.

MAYBE i dont relate as much as you two, but either way, i just didnt find it that funny.

    To each their own...

    ...you old bastards.
