So i entered this contest...

Posted: Monday, September 29, 2008
...but i didnt put much effort into it. But you should go vote for me anyway. Its through this site called Fitizen, which is kinda corny and hokey, but if the stars align and i find a four leaf clover tomorrow, i could potentially win $1000.

The contest is to design a fitted hat with their logo. People vote, someone wins. Although someone pointed out to me that the last "winner" was someone that works for the "company". So its probably all sheisty. Which makes me glad i didnt waste much time on these. Anyway, go vote for me. (if one of these has way more votes than the other, do me a favor and vote for the one that has more. No use in splitting my votes. Thank you and carry on.

This one is obviously a play on the old school Angels logo that i like.

And this one is just a generic crest in the Orioles colors that i came up with.

You may need to sign up for the site to vote, but cmon, im worth it. And everyone has a couple of extra email addresses these days for this kind of crap. So ante up!

Obama madness...

Posted: Saturday, September 27, 2008
...like i said before, im not voting. But the artwork being produced in Obama's favor during the campaign has been unreal and ive been keeping an eye on it. Im pretty sure ive shown this specific peice before. Its a peice done by Ron English, and believe it or not is an oil painting. No photoshopping etc. Straight oil on canvas. You gotta respect that.

Anyway, i stumbled across this and thought id share it.

You can download a digital version, that comes in a nine page PDF file, and print out your own copy of the Obamaham Lincoln. You can also download a plethora of other works supporting Obama but this one is by far my favorite. So here's the one i did, hanging on a wall by my kitchen:

(Although i peiced all nine pages together digitally and printed it out as a large poster on a large format printer. There probably arent too many people out there that have the same access to a printer like that, so if you guys do it the old fashioned way, send me a pic and ill post it.)

Unlike Ferrarri, Maserati does NOT need help...

...They seem to be doing it right. If you ask me of course.

This is the Maserati GranTurismo MC Corse Concept btw, in case you were wondering.

This thing is gorgeous.

Caricature swap...

Posted: Sunday, September 21, 2008
...So i was talkim to my dude steffan (aka mstrpln) on the ol' AIM last week and we decided to do a caricature exchange. Seeing as how we were both bored artists at the time. I sent him a pic, he sent me one, and it was on. It was interesting to see our different takes on it. Mine was more traditional as far as caricatures go, and his was pretty much not a caricature at all. But it came out pretty damn awesome if you ask me. So below are the results.

The pic i sent him:

The pic he sent back:

And heres the drawing i did for him in return:

Im not completely thrilled with how mine came out, but im ok with it, seeing as how i decided to crosshatch the shading, which i havent done in years, and was never really good at in the first place. Plus i screwed up the shape of his chin, but i used a pen, so there was no fixing it. Oh well.

If anyone out there is reading this and fancies themselves an artist, hit me up and maybe we can do an exchange too.

...i was out in the woods again, go figure.

It was time for the annual trip out to Spank's cabin to act like hooligans.

But to help get back on track a little bit, heres a draft of the invitation i designed for my companys upcoming halloween party that we throw every year for the industry folk. (aka the people that over-serve you at bars in order to get bigger tips.)

Update: In case anyone was wondering...

...this is where the 300 painting stands. I put the brushes down for a little while to finish some other work, since theres no deadline on the painting.

Ill be getting back into it next week.

This is amazing...

I dont post music related things, cause there are enough music blogs out there already. But Common is one of my favorite artists, and this teaser clip is awesome. So im passing it along to those of you who havent seen it yet.

Its quite a departure from his usual style as far as both his flow, and the visuals he uses go.

One of my readers (rolli) asked for some desktop images of the new logo. I just sent them off to him and figured id post em up here if anyone else was interested. One is 1280x800 and the other is 1440x900.

Enjoy. And send me a screenshot if you end up using em.

For once, I want you to be a follower...

...at least a blog follower.

I added a little gadget on the left hand side, under the links, that you can click on. I think it says FOLLOW THIS BLOG. Its basically like a fanclub or something. It lets me know how many people are really digging the blog.

You can do it anonymously or otherwise. I THINK you need to have a blogger account to do it though, but im not sure.

To be honest i didnt even read all the details about it. I saw it on someone elses blog and thought it was cool. Sue me.

And since im kinda trying to post more work ive done, been doing etc...

Heres a newspaper ad i did as a favor for a friend who's aunt owns an old lady beauty salon. I did business cards for her too but they look basically the same so im not gonna bother posting those.

EDIT: The FOLLOWER function may not be working for you. I think it might be a pop-up being blocked or something, but who knows. Blogger sucks. Let me know if you get it to work, and what browser you used. (paging Adam...)

Wrapped this up a while ago...

Im on retainer at my buddies restaurant and bar called The Pit. Its a hot rod themed joint. I do all his graphic work, including his identity a few years back and all his advertising, menus and other interior wall graphics.

We just decided to update and freshen up the look recently, so i overhauled the whole look of the place and replaced everything he had up in there. (although the new menu is still going through some final content changes)

Anyway, heres a look at the new logo treatment. The logo hasnt changed, but i added the steel industrial look and the R/T-esque striping. If anyone cares ill post the new menu, its got a bit of a different look, and i dont mind advertising for my boy.

Ok ok sorry about the man mop...

just got home from the bonfire, had a fantastic time, wish (as I stated) that I had done this every week all summer. Will be better next year (or at least I think I will be). Now I smell like smoke and pikake (look into it) and I have had a little too much of a few different wines so I am off to bed. Tomorrow I am in the water all day (or so the plan goes) so wish me luck.

p.s. I am an artist, and random photos of man bush is my medium. I appreciate Chris' willingness to understand.

Back from Omak...

...and im going back. (i just dont know when) Its beautiful.

Crawfish Lake. I saw no crawfish. And as my boy Jarrod found out, its hard to catch fish in 3 foot deep water.

Who else do you know that drinks Stella Artois and shotguns Hurricane High Gravity on the side of country roads? Im a renaissance man.

ps - while i appreciate Jake posting while im gone, i do not condone the posting of male pubic manes on this blog. But Jake is an artist, and i am not one to stiffle the art of others. Just for the record.

pps - Ive been working on a few new graphics that will be put into some limited run production in the near future. Stay tuned. And leave a comment on the new W logo if you so choose.
