To go along with the being "old" theme...

...heres the wine fridge i got for Christmas. Dont get me wrong, i love it and the wine inside it (about half the wine i own is from gifts). But it a way, it does make you feel old. Seems like long gone are the days of a fridge full of Bud Ice, only to be replaced by the days of a wine fridge and refrigerator full of hoppy IPAs and Winter brews.

And since i havent posted any design work in a while, here are a few concepting sketches (in one of my new moleskine notebooks i got for Christmas, thanks to my folks and my lady) for my buddy's soon to be open barber shop. Its gonna be called QUOVAHDIS, which is African (Egyptian i think) for "the journey".

The ideas are still all over the place at this moment, since he trusts me and didnt really give me any direction as far as what hes looking for, aside from possibly a tree\nature theme we discussed. I did his last shop logo too so he pretty much told me to do whatever i wanted and he's sure he'll like it. It almost sounds like a "dream client" to have as far as design work goes, but in reality, since hes a friend of about 15 years, its almost MORE pressure. I feel like i REALLY need to come through with something great for him. Not neccessarily a groundbreaking barbershop logo, cause im going for more of a classic, old timey feel this time, but i just really want to come up with a solid, classicly detailed logo. Ill post it when its all done, as usual.

not to add any pressure, but don't fuck this up many of us have been talking and lets just say you have a number of good friendships riding on this logo.

I don't want to have to cut you loose, but after the way you have handled my care package let me be perfectly clear, this logo is the final straw.

    Period.

    I said Period. Period.

    Mark my words.

it took me a while to design the logo for my barbershop. we went for a tatto look at the shop, so the logo was supposed to look like. www.myspace.com/famousfades

Right on Jason, i think you may have shown me that before.

Like i said, im going for a classic old time shop feel. Manly, yet elegant and classy at the same time. We'll see how it turns out. Feel free to email me if you got any C&C to throw my way, im still open to anything at this point.

Nice work so far, I feel the same way, I've made some stuff for friends and family and its more pressure to make it right. If someone that wasn't someone from my personal life and they didn't like it, eh whatever. But if you're making something for a friend and you give it to them and they've got a weird look on their face, then you've failed. However by the looks of what you've got going on there, I don't see anything bad.

I've been drinking more wine lately too, its definelty a sign of getting older. But I'm fine with that as it looks much classier to the ladies to pull out a bottle of wine than to pull out some keystone light and ask if they want to shotgun one with you.

it seems like the hardest time to create something for someone else is when youre not given any direction. They just say "I trust you cause I know you'll come up with somethin good"

Yeah it definitely does seem to put more pressure on, but thats not neccessarily a bad thing. A lot of times the good ones rise to the occasion under pressure. Im aiming for that.

(jeeze, all this talk about pressure etc and its only a logo job, ha)

"only a logo job"? not to add any unecessary pressure on you but this is not "only" anything, this is THE logo job and the lives of your lovrd ones as well as a thousand blind and crippled orphans with the god given talent to sing like angels hang in the balance, good luck homie,

Dope sketches. I always like looking at peoples minds translated on paper. Seems like you have a handle on this...can't wait to see the final.
