So whats the next best thing?....recreating their current crappy logo. You'd be surprised how many companies dont have a copy of their own logo in a vector format. The might just have a crappy, low quality jpg, and that doesnt always get the job done. So its handy (and necessary) for them to have their logo as a vector.
Like this bar called The Swiss. A co-worker of mine approached me about it and i agreed to simply take their crappy jpg and re-create the logo from scratch. In a vector file format. It took me about an hour and i got a chunk of change that made it well worth it.
The top one is the jpg they gave me, the middle is the vector outline i created, and the bottom is just the final logo, with color.

(not sure why the pic is so small, but if you click it you can kind of see the difference in quality, even as a jpg)
And the best part about doin a logo for a bar, is that more than likely the logo was made at home by the bar's owner, or his cousin, or his 10 yr old daughter who knows how to work MS Paint. Meaning that almost always, the fonts used are default microsoft fonts. Sure enough, all three fonts on this one were just that. (Swiss, Times New Roman, and Kaufmann)
Pretty simple job, and a nice bit of pocket change. Win-Win for me.
I always get a lot of satisfaction from these kinds of jobs. The amount of times we get a bunch of crappy low-res logos that need included in a document means this happens fairly often.
I feel I've slightly improved something for them.
As for MicroSoft default fonts....I'm mac all the way, so this may have posed one hurdle at least.
Yeah i come across it all too often as well. Im kinda mad at myself for not offering my services to these companies before now. Depending on the logo itself, its just plain "easy money".
